Nursing Home Neglect Results in Many Legal Cases

Posted by & filed under Elder Abuse Litigation.

Elderly people often completely depend on their caregivers for daily necessities. Many of them are even bedridden and left completely in the hands of someone else. In some cases, this results in elder neglect.

“Elder neglect, failure to fulfill a caretaking obligation, constitutes more than half of all reported cases of elder abuse. It can be intentional or unintentional, based on factors such as ignorance or denial that an elderly charge needs as much care as he or she does.”  (Elder Abuse and Neglect)

Elder neglect is often unnoticed because the patient cannot tell someone that they aren’t getting the care they need. Sometimes, if the nursing home or caretaker in charge is not caring for the patient properly, then the elderly person may not have anyone else to tell.

If you have a loved one who is provided with nursing care, then you need to be aware of their condition at all times. Nursing home neglect may go unnoticed if you do not pay attention. This could result in your loved one staying in deplorable conditions or they may even be injured trying to take care of themselves. In the most extreme cases of elder neglect, patients have died.

If you have reason to believe that your elderly loved one has been neglected, then you should consider contacting an attorney right away. You may have a case against the nursing home. Call the offices of Thompson Wedeking for a free consultation.
