Multi-car Wreck on SR 52 – keeping yourself safe!

Blind Spot

A multi-car wreck on State Route 52 closed down traffic on the highway, which has now started flowing once again.

The accident happened after 8 a.m. local time when three cars crashed into each other, near the junction with state route 125. Cars involved in the accident included a dark gray pickup truck, white two-door coupe and a four-door sedan.

At least one victim had to be cut out of the coupe they were driving. Rescue workers had to cut the door of a small car in order to release the injured party. That victim is currently in the hospital, but their condition is unknown.

Highway 52 has three lanes where the accident occurred. The damaged cars blocked two of the lanes, but vehicles moved slowly through the third lane, furthest from the divider. Traffic was blocked for about an hour, before cars started moving once again along the highway.

Although the cause of the accident is still being investigated, multi-car accidents are not uncommon.

There are three simple moves you can make to help keep yourself from becoming an accident victim, that most people don’t know.

Sit upright in the driver’s seat. This helps position your body so that you can efficiently operate the steering wheel and pedals.

Don’t start right up when a traffic light turns green. Make sure no one coming the other way is running a red light.

Look in all directions when going through an intersection. Many drivers only look in the direction from which they expect possible oncoming traffic. Pedestrians, bicyclists and drivers breaking laws can come from any direction.

Be aware of your blind spots. Every vehicle has them, and you should know what you can see – and not – in your car.

Don’t drive at night unless you need to do so. Drunk drivers are more common at night, many people are fatigued behind the wheel, and it is more difficult to see.

Drive safely!
