Jogger Dies after Being Hit by a Pickup

It’s no secret that San Diego and the surrounding area have some of the best weather in the entire nation. This helps explain why you can find so many people out on bicycles, jogging or just walking to get to where they need to go. Unfortunately, while it’s popular to travel by foot, bicycle, or rollerblade, that hasn’t seemed to make it any safer. San Diego is the worst city in the state when it comes to pedestrian safety and it’s one of the worst in the entire country as well.

There were a number of accidents in October that left pedestrians either hurt or dead and November isn’t starting out on a very good foot either. On the first day of the month, a man was killed when he tried running across Route 67.

To be fair to the driver in this case, it doesn’t sound like the jogger was being particularly safe with his choice to cross such a busy bit of road. Details are still coming in, but authorities have said the man who hit the deceased didn’t have time to react when the jogger ran out in front of his car.

Fortunately, no one else was hurt or involved in the accident. When the Chevrolet Silverado made contact with the victim, it sent his body off to the shoulder of the highway, meaning other drivers didn’t make contact with him.

The names of both men are currently being withheld. As we said, details are also limited at this time too. Though it sounds like the driver will be cleared, it’s unknown what made the jogger think it was worth the risk to run across a highway in the early morning. Nonetheless, the driver and the family of the deceased may be wise to seek legal representation.
