Crash in Irvine Kills Five

Every state has different laws about minors operating a motor vehicle. However, those that do are expected to have a license establishing that they are legally allowed to be behind the wheel. Despite what you may think about the law in question, a local accident in Irvine suggests it has some roots in logic.

It was this past weekend when a group of six minors left Knott’s Scary Farm in Buena Park and took to Interstate 5. They were heading southbound when the accident that would leave five dead occurred. At about 2:12 in the morning, the driver of the 1995 BMW sedan, who has since been identified as Bradley Morales, ended up taking his car off the road for reasons that remain unknown. After that, his car went up an embankment and finally perched across a retaining wall. Almost immediately, it burst into flames. Orange County firefighters were able to subdue the flames by 2:20 a.m.

Morales was found outside the vehicle and presumable unconscious, though this hasn’t been confirmed. What we do know is that he was rushed to the hospital for immediate medical attention. The latest reports state he was in need of emergency brain surgery for a fracture in his skull. He’s been listed as in serious, but stable, condition.

In California, the law states that you can’t drive after 11 p.m. if you’re under 17 ½ years of age. You also aren’t allowed to have passengers under 20 years of age. However, Morales didn’t have a license to begin with, making the rule on non-matter in this case.

The cause of death is still unknown, though speed is thought to have played a major role. In any case, the accident left his four passengers dead.

The family of the surviving driver should contact an attorney immediately. Given the aftermath, their son could face serious consequences and legal representation is vital to mitigating them.
